The airplane was purchased near Montreal In October 2001. It had been under construction for more than 15 years with several builders involved. Wings are Cessna 150, tail is Aeronca, gear is Cessna 180. Empty weight is 1285. The main attraction was the Mazda 13B rotary engine using a Mazda truck transmission in 2nd gear as a reduction drive.

This view of the left side of the engine shows the transmission case with the additional 1/2 inch aluminum front face which retains the front bearings. Four steel rods tie this plate to the bell housing. The lower intake manifold is stock; the upper is Racing Beat which holds the Dellorto carburetor.

The Mazda transmission

The rad on a slant is the oil cooler; behind it is the water rad. Slope is simply to take advantage of mounting points on the rods that tie the transmission front plate to the bell housing. The normal position of the transmission is slanted. Rads could be packaged more compactly by changing slope to position it closer to the bottom of the engine.
