Strange but True Tales from the Peterborough Court Docket

by Virginia Vibe

An Ontario Court of Justice judge learned some new vocabulary after a man testified he was bitch slapped by another man. The judge asked "What is a bitch slap?" and had it explained. After the case was finished, the judge remarked: "Well I learned something new today. I now know what a bitch slap is."

Not to worry, the Ministry of Natural Resources is serving and protecting the fish in our local waters. Last month almost $10,000 in fines were doled out and 15 people fined in Ontario Court of Justice for violations including fishing without a license and fishing in fish sanctuaries. All but one of those fined were from the Toronto area. Fish court is held the first Monday of each month.

A man trying to sell snapping turtles as pets was fined after he advertised the turtles for sale in a local laundromat. A MNR officer went undercover and took the man down in a snapping turtle sting. He was fined $1,000.
