January 1, 2000
Well, we're still here.
January 1, 2000 sorta looks like... well... December 31, 1999.
I wasn't crazy enough to even LOOK at a road
"Dave is cheap" So be it.
But I DID take a bucket of chicken over to the neighbours,
The evening started out with alot of noise, kids and merriment.
A great bunch of friends, including Sue and Brad.
This chronicle is dedicated to their New Years Eve story.
They arrived around 8, Sue with a crock pot of meatballs, Brad

very special friends.
Even a huge bonfire. (I watched from the kitchen window,
it's
winter here folks, Canada, the great white north,
I PRETENDED
to feel the warmth!!!)
Followed by a ton of food of course.
I've known
Sue forever pretty much.
Brad is a recent addition to the group.
All accent and height, laughter and smiles.

this is theirs, and ours for we were to be witness to it.

right in with the rest of us. (Is that a compliment?)
teasing with the occasional dirty joke thrown in. We played
hilarious games and everyone got to know Brad and
Sue very well by the time midnight rolled around.
We flicked on the television, and there was Dick,
looking pretty much the same as he ever did,
counting down the minutes... the crowd in Time Square was
ENORMOUS, they say it was the size if not bigger than
the end of the war crowd.
The party hats and those blowing thingies were
passed around and finally it was midnight. Everyone was
toasting, hugging and kissing....
the end of the couch, really the only two sitting down.
Sue's hand was fluttering softly at her throat, eyes wide...
I looked down to see Brad easing a diamond ring to her
finger..... I wasn't the only one seeing it....
there was an audible gasp from *everyone* and we

spent so much time with your family, that they bascially
became a part of it. Sue is one of those people with my family.
So in a sense I was watching my big sister get engaged
to the man she loves.
I was so happy for her, and for him, we all were.
She had no idea it was going to happen and Brad didn't say a
word about it all night, he didn't even look nervous.
allowed to be part of such an event. We all went upstairs
to give them a few minutes alone. Diane's (the hostess)
parents are french. I have always called them "Pepe and Fifi".
Pepe put his arm around his wife, and told us that this year
they will be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary.
Mr Happy and I noted it would be our 15th.
Everyone got a case of the 'warm fuzzies'
and I knew all evening what I was going to write about.
But when this happened, I knew that all I wanted to do,
was write about my friends, nothing can compare to that
kind of happiness, and nothing could have made the evening
