Arts & Sciences Challenges
- Medieval Craftsman Challenge
-
- The challenge is to document as many medieval trades or crafts that you personally practiced to complete a single item. We will award two points for each trade or craft, plus a half point for any "extra authentic" steps you took to complete an item. Your documentation consists of describing which trades or crafts you practiced to complete your item, and which "extra authentic" points you should get for your entry.
- For instance, Jane enters a book she bound herself, using paper she made herself, featuring an illuminated page.
- Medieval crafts or trades would include: bookbinding, papermaking, calligraphy, and illumination.
- Jane also mixed her own pigments and made her own ink, using a quill she cut herself. However, she did not make her own thread or tan her own leather. She would get 1/2 point each for the pigments, ink and quill.
- Another example: John enters a tunic with tablet-woven trim he made himself. The cloth is commercial, but he did dye it himself.
- Medieval crafts or trades would include: tailoring, weaving, and dyeing.
- John also spun the yarn he used for the trim, hand-sewed the entire thing, and made his own needle. He would get one half a point for each of these.
- Scots versus English A&S Battle
- If your persona is Scottish or English, you know which side you're on. If you can advocate that your persona would be an ally of either the Scots or the English, you may join that side. Otherwise, we will determine which side you are on by luck of the draw.
- Bring in any item you have completed in the past year Saturday afternoon for display. For each item, your side will get one point.
- The Artistry of Bjarn, on display in the Eoforwic Camp
- From the artist himself: "A series of paintings based on my experiences while participating in the SCA . Hoping to capture and do justice to some of the unique individuals , unforgettable characters and amazing places I have been lucky enough to see during my travels for the better part of the last decade. It is my hope that many of the people who have been portrayed in my paintings , will be able to find their likenesses in the body of work , and be reminded of the great experiences, people and places from which I draw my creative inspiration from. This show is to do justice , and give thanks to all the great folks , and the experiences we have shared, that has given me an unquenchable and ever changing source of inspiration and imagery to document on canvas."
